Technical Operations Engineer

The Company:

We are a profitable startup of a large product brand well known for its product engineering. We build a customer acquisition and retention platform that creates viral referrals for businesses, using the social connections of its customers. Our cloud-based platform is a pioneer in the social referral marketing space and is used by some of the biggest brands in the US including P&G, Intel, Barnes and Noble, CapitalOne, Disney, Kimberly-Clark, Unilever, Conagra Foods, USAA, Intuit, Monster, Gap, etc. We are an Amazon Solution Provider and work closely with Facebook and other platforms and agencies.

Position summary:

We are looking for a Technical Operations Engineer who will work with our cloud based systems, champion automation, contribute to team discussions on distributed system design and own the overall monitoring and scaling of our infrastructure. This could just be the place for you if you love a fast-paced challenging work environment which keeps you perpetually pushed out of your comfort zone.

Responsibilities:

There are no “typical” days, but for most parts you could be doing any of the following:

• Building systems dashboards to visualize, monitor and analyze system metrics and health

• Help in adopting config management based automation for staging and production systems

• Brainstorm and implement disaster prevention and recovery solutions

• Automate big data extraction, crunching and analysis

• Build automation frameworks for infrastructure management

• Continuously aim to improve our infrastructure, monitoring, metrics collection and scalability

You’d fit in if:

• You are a stickler for automation and you hate doing repeatable stuff twice

• You enjoy keeping abreast of the latest and greatest in Technical Operations

• You love bootstrapping large distributed infrastructure deployments

• You’d want to make Amazon or other cloud computing platforms a second address for yourself

• You know Python/Perl/Ruby/Shell scripting.

• You are a master of regular expressions

• You are innately curious about anything that intersects systems, automation tools and programming

Required Skills:

• 3+ years Linux system administration experience

• Shell scripting

• Python

• Experience with Monitoring tools like Nagios

• Knowledge of common network protocols and tools

Good-to-have Skills:

• Familiarity with Cloud computing, especially Amazon Web Services

• Experience working in a startup

• Experience with configuring and administering nginx/MySQL/Apache HTTPD/Tomcat/FTP servers

• Familiarity with Collectd, Graphite and Cacti

• Experience with CM tools like Puppet/Ansible/Chef/Saltstack

• Familiarity with continuous software delivery models
