Linux Server Administrator & Technical Architect for VLEAD

 Virtual Labs is a projected funded by MHRD (Ministry of Human Resources Development).  This project aims to provide  colleges and universities across India with remote access to labs and experiments to be able to perform various practicals for physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering, computer science online.  This reduces the demand for experienced faculty and lab equipment and allows students across nation to share a common learning platform.

VLEAD is a central engineering team for the Virtual Labs project.  VLEAD is responsible for hosting virtual-labs being developed at various participating institutes (including many IITs and IIIT-H) in a private data-center, government data-center or public cloud.  VLEAD is responsible for ensuring security and availability of various virtual-labs.  VLEAD is also responsible for consistent look-and-feel (UI) for all labs and for providing common services such as centralized login, persistence, quiz API, etc. among all labs.  Making virtual-labs accessible from mobile platforms such as Android is
also a desirable output.

This position is for Linux Server Administrator and Technical Architect with hands-on experience in web hosting.  The candidate will be responsible for deploying and maintaining OpenVZ containers based infrastructure. This infrastructure will be used for hosting hundreds of LAMP stacks for individual websites.  They candidate will also be responsible for analyzing the current setup from security point of view and implementing necessary improvements to make the infrastructure more secure.

The position is for three years duration and based out of Hyderabad.  The ideal candidate is expected to work with a mixed team of experienced engineers and freshers.  The candidate will be responsible for leading a team of 5 to
6 members and deliver working virtual-labs from chosen hosting platform (public cloud, private DC, etc.).

Required Skills
- Linux (preferebly CentOS and Ubuntu) server administration
- Basic underrstanding of networking (IP address, subnet-mask, TCP/UDP ports, etc.)
- LAMP administration.
- Experience with OpenVZ and KVM
- OpenLDAP Administration
- Nagios Administration
- Strong communication skills (both oral and verbal)

Desired Skills
- Python/Shell scripting
- Experience with web application security.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure.
- OSSEC Administration

VLEAD office is located inside IIIT-H campus.  The campus is green and has all basic amenities expected from a residential campus (Gym, Library, Sports grounds, etc.).  Further candidate can audit a few courses among variety of
courses offered at IIIT-H.  Candidates are also encouraged to pursue higher education and research oriented programs such as MS and PhD.   Compensation is at par with best compensations one can find across nation in academic
environment.
