Free Software & Indie Web Docker.io packager

Third Party People / the Unhosted project , Bangalore · 3pp.io · Freelance or consulting · IT/Systems Administration

We have some non-profit funding, of which we can give you 500 INR/hour if you are familiar with basic unix system administration: You know how to clone a git repo, get a basic LAMP stack running on virgin metal, and how to enable GD support in PHP.

Although this gig requires sysadmin skills, it does not actually involve any on-call or administration of a live system: the task is to write Dockerfiles for Indie Web and Personal Cloud software packages like Diaspora*, ownCloud, MediaGoblin, arkOS, CozyCloud, OpenPhoto, gitlab, pump io, idno, taproot, cloud9, tahoe-lafs, etcetera.

This means, cloning the project on github or wherever its source code is, following the build instructions, and turning it into a reproducable install script in the format of a Dockerfile, to be used with the Docker.io lxc container orchestration software.

Your packaging will often be the first time these software packages appear on the Docker index. You can publish the packages on https://index.docker.io/ as free software, under your own freelancer credentials, meaning you can build up a name as a packaging expert in the young and booming global Docker community. This will help you get more fame and exposure for future clients! See also http://redecentralize.org/ and http://indiewebcamp.com/ to understand the sort of software we're trying to package here.

The 500 INR/hour will be paid out as a donation, because of the good impact your work will have on global technology freedom of mankind. So you will get the warm, fuzzy feeling of building  a Better World ™ at the same time!
