Job Title: Technology Manager
Reports to: CEO

About Us
Sanergy is an award-winning social venture that is building a sustainable sanitation network throughout Nairobi's slums, by creating a network of local entrepreneurs who run small-scale sanitation centers. We provide affordable, accessible and hygienic sanitation services to individuals. We safely collect and convert the waste into valuable by-products. As we grow, we are becoming an increasingly sophisticated, highly intricate organization that is dependent on technology systems to scale rapidly and efficiently.

Roles & Responsibilities
The Technology Manager is responsible for developing and driving the implementation of the technology strategy for internal IT systems. The right person for the job has excellent programming and analytical skills. You are a highly organized, articulate conceptual thinker with the proven ability to facilitate both internal and external consensus, and provide the follow-up monitoring necessary to either ensure impact or provide change management leadership. You are passionate about using data to improve operations and inform strategy. You are hungry to take Sanergy’s systems to the next level. You are a tenacious problem-solver. The responsibilities for this role include:

  • Comprehensive knowledge and capability with Sanergy’s data systems. You are the person in the room who understands everything our systems can and can't do. That means knowing what's written and what's not, what the architecture can and can't support, and how long it would take to build something new.
  • Never say "that's impossible" but rather find options and communicate them to everyone in the company and drive to consensus.
  • Understand what the objectives or needs of the teams are, and find a way to get 80% of the benefit for 20% of the cost.
  • Recruit and manage an innovative team and grow them into technical leaders.
  • Develop and manage a multi-year technology roadmap and own the development methodology.
  • Serve as a project manager for the development and deployment of architectural solutions that are secure, scalable, comprehensive and maintainable.
  • Participate in business planning and communicate technical knowledge and vision of both current and future technology related to company’s competitive position.
  • Ensure that systems are used to their full potential, including monitoring user adoption and teaching other team members what options are available for data tracking.
  • Keep an eye on all company data – including storage, completeness, accuracy and currentness – and address issues with teams as they arise.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree or Masters in computer science or related discipline
  • Proven experience hiring, developing and inspiring teams of exceptionally talented technologists
  • Experience in start-up or early stage environment developing technology products
  • Extensive development experience with the Force.com and Google Apps platforms
  • Proven ability to think strategically and creatively
  • Effective verbal and written communication; multi-tasking, organizational, prioritization skills are necessary.
  • Proven managerial skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a social entrepreneur, with the ability to function as a team player among peers. Humility and personal stability. We have a fantastic and likeable team. We are looking for passionate professionals that combine strong leadership skills with good humor and patience.
