Senior SDE – Payments & SDK Platform

Location: India – Remote | Flexible hours, with availability for evening meetings to sync with US time zone

We’re Treez — a fast-growing Series C startup tackling one of the most complex challenges in fintech: cannabis payments. We process millions of dollars in payments revenue, and we’re building a custom payments stack that’s becoming a core piece of our company’s IP.

About the Role

We’re looking for a seasoned engineer who can step into a high-impact individual contributor role to help us scale TreezPay and its SDK platform. This role is a mix of technical leadership, system architecture, and hands-on coding — ideal for someone who thrives on solving deep system-level problems and mentoring others.
You will work closely with Product and other Engineering teams to build reliable, secure, and scalable payment solutions.

What You’ll Do

* Own and evolve the architecture of TreezPay’s core platform and SDK ecosystem.
* Design and build scalable, high-performance services that process payments and integrate with 3rd-party providers.
* Lead and guide end-to-end system design — from database schema to deployment pipelines.
* Drive code quality and best practices through code reviews, TDD, and technical mentorship.
* Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and infra teams to deliver features at high velocity.
* Contribute to building our next-gen SDK platform used by external integrators.
* Take ownership of reliability, observability, and performance of mission-critical components.
Support the team in production releases, incident resolution, and automation efforts.

What We’re Looking For

* Prior experience in payments (e.g., card processing, payment gateway) or building developer SDKs/APIs used at scale.
* Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, queues, and system scalability.
* Hands-on experience with SQL databases. Bonus for experience optimizing high-throughput DB systems.
* Strong grasp of observability practices — logs, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
* Comfortable mentoring peers, reviewing designs, and guiding junior engineers.
* 7+ years of backend development experience in modern languages (e.g., Node.js, Java, Go, Python).
* Bonus: Experience in AWS/GCP, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code.

Nice to Have

* Exposure to frontend/backend integration patterns for SDKs.
* Familiarity with cash handling workflows or regulatory requirements.
