Software Engineer at Red Hat

The Red Hat Satellite Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer to join us in Pune, India. In this role, you will work on the upstream open source projects. We'll need you to be comfortable learning and working with Ruby on Rails and JavaScript-based applications. You will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of software developers, product designers, and Quality Assurance engineers. You will work on new features and address existing defects and bugs in the assigned project.

Primary Job Responsibilities

• Create new features in Ruby or JavaScript, and contribute them to upstream projects
• Submit patches for bug fixes to the community; review patches from other community members
• Work with the Quality Engineering team to ensure that the projects are tested correctly
• Publicize the work the team is doing via blogs, web postings, or conference talks

Required Skills

• Contribution to Open Source projects is a big plus
• Solid object-oriented software development skills
• Experience in Ruby on Rails or modern Javascript (ES6)
• Familiarity with automated testing tools like Rspec, MiniTest, Jest etc.
• Familiarity with various deployment models, including cloud, virtualization, and shared data sets
• In-depth knowledge of relational databases (Postgres, MySQL)
• Desire to participate in open source communities and make a difference in the world
• Knowledge of JavaScript applications and jQuery, Angular, React, etc. is a plus
• Familiarity with various configuration management tools (Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Salt, etc.) is an advantage
• Familiarity with server provisioning (bare metal, virtual, cloud containers) and operating system provisioning is a plus
