RedCarpet is a YCombinator 2015 startup trying to disrupt lending and credit in India. We lend to people that banks cannot see. We crunch alternative data sources and use it to build honest and sustainable credit for people in India. We like to think ourselves as the next generation of credit and banking on the smartphone. We have relentlessly iterated for over three years and now are growing like crazy.

Our apps and api are our core product and we spend a lot of effort on them. We have a fairly interesting stack - Py3.6 (f-strings FTW!), flask, numba, pandas, celery, docker, postgresql and Reactjs+Rxjs. On the Android side, we are big fans of Kotlin, Rxjava (and now React Native).

We are based conveniently out of South Delhi (https://www.redcarpetup.com/location) and are at a 1 minute walking distance to the metro... and 20 minutes away from the cool places of Gurgaon Cyberhub or Delhi's Hauz Khas Village.

The Role

We were looking for a young developer to join us as a fullstack data engineer and run with us on this incredible adventure.

This is a data engineering role - which means it is heavily execution oriented. You will work with Spark, Pandas, Cassandra, Airflow, etc. But you will also spend a lot of time on core database SQL, building APIs in python+flask and javascript hackery.

If you are not someone that cannot setup a hadoop or cassandra cluster on your laptop and write an API to expose data to some dashboards (in javascript, no less!!!) , then this not a good fit for you. You should be able to dive first into tons of Excel and VB (because that's what banks use), make sense of it and still be able to hyper-optimize it in Flask using Numba.

This is a role for those who enjoy building full systems (right from ETL to dashboards... and core data science/ML in between) around data engineering - that is the only way to disrupt the Indian ecosystem.

Purist data scientists will probably be lost in translation ;)

Some of the most incredible programmers I’ve known don’t have pretty resumes, so we have no “minimum” requirements for degrees.
