Battery Management System

Plank Labs is developing a cutting-edge Li-ion battery system that will serve as it's primary vehicle for entry into the energy storage & smart grid spaces. We are working with a globally distributed team to develop an advanced residential as well commercial battery pack for various usage patterns. We are looking for a lead Battery Management System (BMS) engineer to spearhead out battery system electronics design

 

The candidate is expected to perform the following primary duties

 

    Perform comparative cost/benefit analysis to facilitate build/buy decisions related to existing BMS offerings in the market

    Develop system architectures for battery management systems to meet safety, performance, maintenance, and cost targets for future iterations

    Perform failure mode and effect analysis, hazard and risk analysis

    Design and develop battery system-level behaviors, sequence diagrams, data/signal flows

    Develop HV battery system performance, maintenance, and functional safety requirements

    Coordinate battery system simulation, component sizing, and create subsystem and component requirements

    Create battery system test and validation plans, and create documention to meet safety requirements

    Collaborate with other power electronics engineers, embedded systems engineers, software engineers and protocol engineers to develop an intelligent smart-grid storage system

    Work in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary team environment, ensure timely completion of assigned tasks, and facilitate project partnerships

 

The candidate should be comfortable working in a global team with a wide variety of backgrounds and skill sets, welcome constructive feedback and provide leadership to a young and dynamic engineering team which includes software, hardware, power electronics and quality assurance engineers. The candidate should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where several interdependent technologies are being developed simultaneously.

 

Required Minimum Experience:

 

    Bachelors or Masters in electrical, mechanical engineering, or equivalent.

    Experience working with lithium-ion battery systems in stationary storage applications.

    Experience with functional safety standards such as ISO 26262, IP64/65 etc.

    History of working with System Analysis and development tools.

    Excellent problem-solving skills

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

Preferred Experience:

 

    Experience integrating with CAN protocol and embedded systems

    Experience with large battery system thermal runaway testing and mitigation

    Experience with life cycle management of lithium-ion battery

    Experience in developing a product from concept to production

    Experience in design and analysis of stationary residential and/or commercial battery packs

    Strong knowledge of battery safety standards
