Remote Django developer for a small business

Joe D , Remote Work · okayrelax.com · Full-time employment · Programming

About us.

We are a small business that is transitioning from a one-size-fits-all platform to a web application built from-the-ground-up to fit our needs. We provide people with the ability to offload mundane tasks to our staff, and strive to make that a seamless experience for everyone involved.

As a quality conscious team, we feel the need to bring someone in with some experience in Django and PostgreSQL. And that’s where you come in!

Expectations.

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in Django and Python.
  • Experience working with PostgreSQL and Django's ORM, and a high level understanding of package management from a back-end developer's point of view.
  • A high-level idea of how third-party payment processors such as Stripe and PayPal work.
  • Experience with the basic tenets of web-development: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We don’t expect advanced JavaScript or any particular framework experience. We do expect familiarity with utility-first CSS.
  • Experience with source code versioning; we use git.
  • We don’t like “self-documenting” code. We will expect that your work will be documented in as plain language as possible, such that even a junior developer can understand what has been authored by you. This includes inline documentation along with your code, and guideline documents for the overarching ideas and tools employed.
  • We’re a remote-first company. All communication happens in written word and across channels. You should expect this from everyone else as well as reflect it in your communication.
  • Bonus: You know how to use PyTest to write unit tests.
  • Bonus: Open-source side-project or two in Django and/or Python.
  • Bonus: Privacy is at the heart of your work. We value our customers data immensely!
  • Bonus: You have an online presence in terms of a development blog or a dev-related Twitter/Mastodon.
  • Bonus: While not required, some experience in React or Svelte is beneficial. You’re not gonna be writing a SPA.
