Actionboard is a software company in Chennai. We build finance software that helps businesses run their finance work with less manual effort, see clearly what is happening, and make better decisions. Our products cover reporting and analytics, process automation, AI features, and custom apps built on our own app platform.

About the role

Forward Deployed Engineers sit between our clients and our platform. You will learn how a client’s business actually runs, work out what they really need, design the data behind it, build the app on our platform and test it, then stay with them until it works in their day-to-day. You will also work alongside experienced developers, helping with smaller tasks, debugging and fixes.

What you’ll do

• Talk to clients to understand the problem behind each request and how their business works, and turn it into a technical plan
• Design the data: the entities, how they relate, and the right schema for each app
• Build apps on our platform: data models, forms, workflows, reports, dashboards and business logic
• Break big requirements into small parts, keeping data correct, apps fast, and code easy to change later
• When something breaks, find the root cause, from the source data to the number on the screen, and fix it, with help when you need it
• Test features and edge cases so problems are caught before the client sees them
• Help senior developers with smaller tasks, investigations and fixes
• Write down how each app works: its workflows, data model and changes
• Bring what you learn from clients back to our product team

Who we’re looking for

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or a related field
• 0–1 year of experience. Freshers are welcome
• The basics of programming, data structures and object-oriented programming
• The basics of databases: SQL, tables, relationships and schema design
• You break a problem into small steps and ask good questions before jumping in
• You learn new tools on your own and take feedback well
• You stay with a problem until it works, even when it isn’t your part
• You explain technical ideas clearly to non-technical people, and work well in a team
• You can work full-time from our office in Chennai

Good to have

• Hands-on time with any programming language
• Some knowledge of web apps and APIs
• Used Git, a debugger or tests before
• College projects, internships or personal projects you can tell us about

What we expect

We don’t expect you to know everything on day one. We care about strong basics, curiosity, clear thinking and how quickly you learn. Over time, you should be able to reason through a technical problem, see how a design choice affects data and performance, and build apps on our platform yourself.

How you’ll grow

You will get hands-on experience in app development, database design, debugging and delivering software that clients use every day. As you grow, you will own bigger and more complex apps.
