Hardworking developer at Interviewstreet

Interviewstreet , Bangalore · interviewstreet.com/challenges · Full-time employment · Programming

I'm Vivek, one of the founders at Interviewstreet. I'm basically a programmer and don't know how to write sugar-coated job descriptions (rockstars/ninjas/hustlers, etc.). Here's a plain one.

Attempt..
We're trying to build something bigger than just attacking job industry (which will automatically happen). We're building a hub of talent - an addictive place where problem solvers hang out, solve interesting challenges, contribute challenges building THE place for problem solvers to spend time on the web.

Imagine..
Imagine if there are 100k problem solvers hanging out on your site every day? The potential value of the site is huge. For instance a big entity in the US asked if they could pose a seemingly hard never solved problem on our site and see if anyone could come up with a solution. They were ready to offer $100k and many more accolades. It just reinforced the value of a talent hub and the possibilities of doing multiple things beyond jobs

Experiment..
Currently, we've ACM type of programming problems on our site. We want to expand the type of challenges, induce social & braggable components, increase DAU/MAU and experiment a lot more. Experiment both on the type of problems and the web components to be added that's going to increase retention of users.

Win
It's going to take a lot of time. We've got acquistion offers from some of the really known job/social-networking sites but rejected them all. What we're trying to build is hugely ambitious and it takes a lot of pain and time to get there.

Problem solver
I think the world needs more problem solvers which is a super set of a typical definition of a programmer. A financial algorithm guy working in Bank of America is also a programmer (they are super smart), a PhD student in Physics who simulates protein structures is also a programmer and there are many more who come under the category "Problem solvers"

Decide to join

> Ready to go through the highs & lows
> Come, talk to us and see if you'll ever be open to spending a Sunday at the office only because a    couple of them from the team is working on that day

Job Perks

  • Any book on Flipkart and buy another one once you're done
  • We're changing our name (maybe hackerrank.com?) to comply with our goal - a chance to name the company that you're going to work for
  • Buy whatever food that you like and stock it in our cafeteria
