Video editor - content

Hasgeek Learning Private Limited , Anywhere · hasgeek.com · Short-term contract · Writer/Editor

Who are we looking for - and why?

A good deal of content today is video footage and recorded conversations which were once broadcast live. Much of this content needs careful filtering and parsing - an eye that can pull out relevant sections of video footage - including quotes, snippets and materials that can be effectively used to amplify ideas and important opinions. This job is not a “technical video editing job”. It is the job of an editor who can view and annotate video footage to pick relevant sections which can be converted into:

  1. Video snippets that can be used in long-form articles.
  2. Short videos that can be used for MarComm such as newsletters.
  3. Marketing material.
  4. Content for social media.

Who are we?

Marc Andreessen famously said “Software is eating the world”. We agree. We are in an era where companies that are tech-first are slowly but surely eating away at those who don’t. Amazon up-ended retail in the US. E-commerce has become the nemesis of retail shops selling mobile phones. Karnataka’s e-governance projects took away discretionary authority from low level officials and handed it to a bunch of programmers in Bangalore. Business everywhere - from construction to legal consulting - is now at least in part a software business.

And yet, there aren’t enough platforms for business owners, engineers and those in technology to learn from each other. This is the void Hasgeek fills.

What do we do?

  1. Build communities by assessing education, capacity building and skill validation needs that tech practitioners from startups, SMEs and large organizations have.
  2. Discover interesting, novel ideas and approaches to solving business, product, technical and societal problems.
  3. Elevate ideas and practitioners by putting them before an audience and/or distributing their work to a wider audience of peers. Ideas discovered through Hasgeek’s peer review process have gone on to become prominent startups, written up as books, and created large-scale impact.

We do the above through a programmatic approach of curated content and activity maps that feed into learning paths for practitioners, including fresh entrants all the way up to middle management and senior level executives. We believe in creating impact. And the “pay it forward” model where those who benefit from participation eventually become contributors.

In the last 11 years, Hasgeek has built a large network of technologists, designers, data scientists and practitioners working in startups, SMEs and enterprises, providing them with a platform to showcase their innovation, present research and explain the technology breakthroughs which are consumed everyday through products and services.

We are open to receiving applications from candidates of diverse backgrounds. The content that Hasgeek produces is deeply technical. If you work with specific technologies and/or hang out in community forums,  you should definitely apply. Some of the content under the house brands is non-technical, and needs a sharp eye for parsing and synthesizing.

There is added benefit if you have some of the following backgrounds:

  1. Technical writing
  2. Content research and writing
  3. Journalism
  4. Media and publishing
  5. Marketing communications

Requirements:

Preferred candidates are those who have been working with specific technologies and have an active interest in participating in communities.

We require candidates to meet the following criteria:

  1. Excellent written communication with strong ability to synthesize information.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and flexibility to adjust to a wide variety of working styles.
  3. Excellent organizational skills
  4. Time management and prioritization skills
  5. Attention to detail.
  6. Positive, collaborative approach to work.
  7. Ability to work with video editing software is a bonus skill, though not required for this role.
  8. Openness to exploring and using tools that help in expediting outputs - including annotation and transcription software for better collaboration and faster outcomes.
