The Role

We're seeking an AI & Data Engineer to join our engineering team and take the lead on our artificial intelligence and data initiatives. You'll have significant influence in shaping our AI/ML technology stack, architecting data systems, and building intelligent solutions that transform how educational institutions evaluate and implement technology. This role offers the opportunity to drive our AI capabilities and directly impact educational outcomes globally.

Technology Stack (You'll Help Shape)

• AI/ML: Your input on frameworks - OpenAI API, Anthropic Claude, TensorFlow/PyTorch, Hugging Face, or alternatives
• Backend: Node.js foundation, with your input on the AI/data services layer
• Database: Supabase (PostgreSQL)
• Cloud Infrastructure: AWS

Key Responsibilities

AI & Data Strategy & Development

• Drive technical choices for AI and data-related tools, frameworks, and platforms
• Architect and build scalable AI applications and data processing pipelines
• Research and recommend emerging AI technologies and their strategic implementation
• Establish practices for AI model deployment, monitoring, and optimization

Hands-On Development

• Build production-ready AI systems for educational insights and intelligent automation
• Develop machine learning models for educational outcome prediction and trend analysis
• Create robust data pipelines and ETL processes for diverse educational datasets
• Implement AI-powered content analysis, classification, and recommendation systems
• Design and build analytics systems that surface actionable insights

Technical Integration

• Integrate AI capabilities with existing platform architecture (Node.js backend, Supabase)
• Collaborate with full-stack team to embed AI features into user-facing applications
• Build APIs and services that expose AI functionality to frontend applications
• Ensure AI systems are performant, secure, and scalable across cloud infrastructure
  
  

Required Skills & Experience

AI & Data Core Competencies

• 3+ years experience with AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Claude) and LLM integration patterns
• Strong proficiency in Node.js or Python for data analysis
• Hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar)
• Practical knowledge of prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and LLM optimization
• Experience building data pipelines and ETL processes
• Understanding of statistical analysis and data visualization techniques

Development & Backend Skills

• Strong programming foundation in Python and/or JavaScript/Node.js
• API development experience - RESTful services, GraphQL, or similar
• Database expertise - SQL proficiency and experience with both transactional and analytical workloads
• Cloud platform knowledge - AWS preferred but not required
• Version control and collaboration - Git workflows and team development practices

Highly Valued Experience

• System architecture: Designing scalable data and AI systems from scratch
• AI techniques: Vector databases, RAG systems, fine-tuning, or custom model development
• Data science expertise: Statistical modeling, experimentation, or quantitative analysis
• Production AI experience: Deploying, monitoring, and maintaining AI systems at scale
• Industry experience: Previous work in SaaS, startups, analytics platforms, or data-driven products
• Research background: Academic or industry research in ML, AI, or data science
