Call for Applications - Research Consultant for Data Analysis and Visualisation

Centre for Internet and Society , Anywhere · cis-india.org · Short-term contract · Graphic Design

The researchers at the Centre for Internet and Society are working on two research grants from the Internet Society Foundation and the International Labour Organization. Through the work on these grants, CIS is comprehensively evaluating labour practices in dominant and emergent sectors in the platform economy in India. In doing so, we have combined field-based qualitative and quantitative methods, and desk-based legal-regulatory research.

The knowledge generation comprises three work packages, which include: (a) creating quantitative datasets on the sector-specific management of platform labour(ers) in India; (b) analysis of digital platforms’ organisational structures and regulatory positions; and (c) strategy-building exercises and distillation of findings into implementable forms.

Through these work packages, we want to understand and address the particular opportunities and challenges in accessing and conducting work on digital platforms faced by workers belonging to marginalised communities.

The selected consultant will support the core research team in their analysis of the quantitative data collected through pan-India, in-depth surveys of gig workers and their ‘traditional’ counterparts. The consultant will translate the analysis into dashboards and visualisations that tell compelling stories. Examples of what we are expecting, and are inspired by are here, here, and here.

This is a three to four month role, with an effort estimate of 15-18 hours per week. The minimum consolidated fee for this role is INR 1,75,000/-, subject to applicable taxes. The fee will be finalised depending on the scope of work co-determined with the consultant, to align with their skillset. We seek candidates who are available to start immediately.
